Ilmberger inner exhaust heat shield, lower, for the BMW R 1300 R/RS

The front exhaust heat shield at the header for the BMW R 1300 R/RS was specifically developed for the thermally highly stressed area of the boxer engine and protects both the carbon component itself and adjacent parts from extreme heat exposure. Thanks to its precise adaptation to the contour of the header, optimal heat dissipation is ensured, while at the same time a noticeable weight reduction compared to the standard component is achieved. Ilmberger carbon combines maximum temperature resistance with its characteristic lightweight design – a functional upgrade that underlines the performance philosophy of the R 1300 R. The exact fit guarantees tool-free installation and integrates seamlessly into the lines of the boxer engine.

Hand craftsmanship and precision

The carbon components are carefully hand-laminated to ensure consistent fibre alignment. After curing, the edges are precisely trimmed by robot to guarantee a perfect fit.

Unique plastic powder coating

Ilmberger offers a globally unique plastic powder coating that protects the components from environmental influences and provides an unrivalled depth effect. This sealing prevents ageing and significantly extends the service life of the parts.

High-gloss clear coat layer

The final high-gloss clear coat ensures a perfectly smooth surface and underlines the luxurious, sporty look of the carbon components. Each part is a masterpiece of engineering and design.

Benefits of prepreg and autoclave processing

Prepreg, a pre-impregnated carbon fabric, is characterised by uniform resin distribution and a high fibre volume content. This results in maximum strength and increased flexibility of the components. Processing in an autoclave, a high-pressure oven, ensures perfect, even curing and a flawless surface. This method prevents air inclusions and guarantees consistently high quality.
